The Details...............


Its annoying when your battery goes flat without warning. This neat little unit can be used wherever you have a 12v  based electrical system. Perhaps your bike, car, camper or boat, or that battery you have to power the lights in your shed can go flat on you without warning, or you would like some idea of how much juice you have left?


This compact gadget will show you by means of six bright LEDs the voltage level of your battery.


Simple fitment instructions are included with the device. A fitting kit comprising  tie wraps and rear mounted adhesive pads and bases is supplied  to allow fitment to any flat or curved surface - fix to dashboard, wall, handlebars, any surface you can stick and loop cable ties around.


This unit is intended to provide a permanent display for use in systems where pressing buttons, and annoying flashing LEDs would distract. Imagine something in your vehicle thats flashing to get your attention, or needs a button pressing to get a reading. This unit looks after itself, and its clear 6 LED levels, and 'emergency flash' at critical battery levels on red LED are simple and easy to understand. You dont need the datasheet to comprehend lots of distracting  coded flashing for each and every LED on the unit. You can set the unit to illuminate just one LED at a time, or act as a multi-LED trend display. (See motorcycle photo for trend operation).


So, by using the 'Yellow Wire' function, you can set this unit to light a line of one to 6 LEDs in a bargraph fashion, or illuminate just a single LED at the current indicated position.

The 'D' model is especially for very low current (non vehicle) applications  where minimum current draw is required as the battery has no charging system. The 'D' model lights a single led, or flashes a single LED, according the the 'yellow wire' connection.

LED Operating Points



Overcharge is indicated at 15.2v, with the unit flashing the two end LEDs (red and green). This warns you that your alternator or charging system may be frying your battery!


In single LED mode, the LED will ‘travel’ to the current battery status level. In multi-LED mode, all LEDs will light to the current battery status level.


The red LED has multi-functional capability. Once the red LED illuminates, the battery is considered discharged. If further current is drawn, it may deep-discharge and reduce future battery life. User warning against further discharge is indicated by slow flashing, and critical level indicated by rapid flashing of the red LED.


Installation :


The unit has three wires:



Connect the yellow wire to 0v for lowest current,  reduced visibility (useful on vehicles if user prefers)  single LED mode, or connected to 12v for multi-LED ‘bargraph’ mode.


The yellow wire could be wired to a vehicle ignition switch to put the unit into bargraph operation when vehicle operating, or single LED lowest current mode when vehicle idle.


The unit is intended for surface mounting via the backing tape provided. It may also be mounted behind a panel with LEDs exposed through suitable holes. LEDs are on a 7mm pitch and require a 5.5mm clearance hole if mounted in this way.


The internal module may also be removed by simply removing four screws from the rear cover and pressing the leds at the front to pop the electronic module out the rear.
